"I Will Pronounce Your Name" by Leopold Sedar Senghor (Senegal)

What the literture says about Africa is that they are very in touch with everything. When I say everything I mean the coins, the wildife, flowers... etc. The author uses simile in the poem.. It says that people in Africa have unique names because people in America don't name their children Nameksha of whatever the girls name was.... That in Africa everything can be related?

Journal Topic:
(About my dog) lol...
My love for you is stronger than the tsunami that just hit japan.
I've raised you since you were young therefore you mirror my personality.
Even though we can't see eye to eye because I am taller than you,
I still & will always love your annoying obnoxious self.
And no other dog can replace my miyah <3

The Last Judgement by Karel Capek (Czechoslovakia)

I don't really want to think that in Czechoslovakia all guys are running around shooting people and cops so you can't really say what the literature says about the region of the world it's from. But maybe it's true that they are all running around with guns, who knows? Anyway what this literature also could say about the region it's from is that God in some way is your friend because he's saying he can't judge you and he feels sort of sympathetic for you?

The consequences of living a bad life to me is your not going to be able to re-incarnate, go to heaven's gates, or go where ever the good making decision people go. My opinion on the "Final Judgement" is that it is a weird story because I don't think that before you go on you go through a court system type thing. I do believe in karma because I've had it myself and it sucks but anyway yes I do believe in karma. Humans shouldn't be mean and inhumane to other humans because no matter what if someone says something about you and you say it doesn't bother you, it actually really does and it's hurting the other person. And people shouldn't be killing people over any circumstances because it's just wrong! You can't really expain why people shouldn't be mean to people because it's just a fact of life that no one should have to go through the pain of being hurt, loosing someone, or being killed.

First Confession by: Frank O'Connor (Ireland)

What I think the literature says about the region its from is that first off is this guy who wrote the short story is trying to create comedy with religion... Also that they take confession really seriously and that they should always tell the priest everything in confession when committing a sin. Irish people take religion very seriously, they love their church, they are very committed with going to the services and helping people. It says that their religion is a very important part of their everyday lives and that you should be nice to your parents/ grandparents, cousins, siblings EVERYBODY!

I don't really go to church but I received my first Communion or however you spell it so I think I'm Catholic or Christian? The church I used to go to would have Sunday school and they created plays of all the things in the bible and then there was the actual mass. There was always these church fairs, weddings, games, and just alot going on in my church. During the service time the priest talks the WHOLE time for like 2 hours. The church's beliefs is I don't know anymore because I stopped going to church when my parents got divorced.

"Night" by Elie Weisel (Romania)

- What this literature says about the region of part of the world where it's from is saying The Nazi's didn't like Jews. One person with too much power can do mass distruction if no one stops it on time. During this time, thousands of people were being killed by Germans and it says that the Germans were evil and did not think of anything besides getting rid of the whole jewish race. So what it mainly says is that the Germans were evil and horrible people and this was a horrific time period.

-JOURNAL RESPONSE: What I will remember longest about this book is that just the sadness and the sorrow you feel for all of these people that had to endure these horrible events each and every day. The images that will stick with me is the picture of all the skinny people and everyone all smushed in one bunk. It changed my way in thinking by never under estimate anyone because stuff like this can still happen! The part I find the saddest is when Elie's dad died. He was the only person that was with Elie the whole way until the very end of freedom. The most horrifying is the whole thing, there was nothing good that happened at these camps. The most angering is why would soliders follow this evilness. The most confusing is why would HItler even want to do this! And the most touching is that Elie surrvived.

"Central Station" (Brazil)

What this literture says about Brazil is that the houses are small. People are dirty, alot of people drink. This is what I think this movie was trying to get at. Most of the roads are dirt roads. They are very religious and the guys sleep around with alot of females and have alot of children. That is what I got out of the movie.

Journal Topic: Dora and Josue seem like they care about eachother in an Aunt & nephew type relationship. I think the relationship is kind of like mine and my mom's because we're mean to eachother but at the end of the day, I know she loves me and I love her. But other than that, we don't really compare to them we're more different than anything. The importance of family is that they'll always be there, no matter where you are. Yeah family should always stick together no matter what because that's your blood and by law they have to be there.

"Borders" By: Thomas King (Canada)

What this story says about this region where it's from is saying that ethnicity is more important than nationality because people in Canada were blackfoot before they were Canadian! I think it shows that they weren't proud to say they're from Canada, they were more proud of their race. There's not much you can really say about what it shows, it just shows that these people were not proud of where they came from, but more of what they all made each other out to be.

My nationality and/or my ethnicity is not that important to me how people claim to be ooo I'm puerto rican that makes me better, ooo I'm black I can fight. No, no matter what race you are, no matter where you come from- it all depends on your personality. Not your color of skin, or accent. If I was Chinese, black, Mexican, puerto rican, any race, I would still be Wendy! I don't know people just carry out them being a certain race too much where it's just annoying! I laugh at people who bounce off walls because someone called them a pork chop or fried chicken because it's ridiculous. You are really going to start a fight over some one calling you by your race like honestly it's pathetic and stupid!

"The Youngest Doll" By: Rosario Ferre (Puerto Rico)

What I get from this story about the culture where it's from is that people there are weird and crave money. I don't really think that puertorican's are crazy but from the looks of this story, they make them really weird. Like I don't know the doctor and his son just want $$$$ & the aunt making all them dolls was ridiculous. Also a prawn living in the aunt's leg is nasty just this whole story was wack.... !

Journal Topic: A time in my life when I was terrified was when some one was in my house when I came home and there was this random black guy stealing all of my stuff and I was like in 2nd grade. I think it was scary because I was home alone and I had to call my dad and he raced over there trying to shoot the guy and it was just alot for a 2nd grader. The scariest movie I ever seen was the original exorcist & now I'm scarred for life and will never watch another scary movie in my life ! The movie was scary because it just was, the whole persona of it I don't know I was young and my mom put it in and it kept replaying and replaying just super scary :( Many horror films share people either being killed, or possessed or anything horrorish.
